Objectives and competences

General objectives of the Degree in Applied Languages ​​and Translation

The objectives of the Degree in Applied Languages ​​and Translation are the following:

  1. Produce and correct texts in the Catalan and Spanish languages ​​with an expert level and in those of the English and French languages ​​with an advanced level.
  2. Translate texts from French and English into Catalan and Spanish.
  3. Manage multiculturalism and multilingual environments efficiently in diverse environments.
  4. Evaluate and design dynamization and linguistic revitalization plans.
  5. Evaluate and design planning and teaching materials related to language teaching.
  6. Participate in the development of resources and applications of linguistic technology.
  7. To know the literature produced in the mentioned languages ​​and the culture of countries of English language and French language in order to be able to influence the improvement of communication processes in a multicultural framework.

B01 That students have demonstrated to possess and understand knowledge in an area of ​​study that starts from the base of general secondary education, and is usually found at a level that, although supported by advanced textbooks, supports advanced textbooks, It also includes some aspects that imply knowledge coming from the vanguard of its field of study

CG1 Manage a rational and critical knowledge of linguistic phenomena that allows understanding and making them understandable to others

CE1 Acquire essential knowledge of linguistic thinking and the ability to discriminate between different theories to apply them in the scientific study of the language.

CT1 Acquire adequate comprehension and oral and written expression of Catalan and Spanish.

B02 That students know how to apply their knowledge to their work or vocation in a professional manner and possess the skills that are usually demonstrated through the elaboration and defense of arguments and the resolution of problems within their area of ​​study

CG2 Evaluate and assess the most recent trends in the areas covered. Develop a critical reasoning before the new tendencies.

CE2 Evaluate policies and methodologies for teaching and managing languages ​​in multilingual environments and design action plans for the optimization of multilingual communication.

CT2 Acquiring a significant command of a foreign language, especially English.

B03 That students have the ability to gather and interpret relevant data (usually within their area of ​​study) to make judgments that include a reflection on relevant issues of a social, scientific or ethical nature

CG3 Value individual work capacity and motivation for quality and rigor. Produce different types of text.

CE3 Acquire the ability to produce translated texts according to the context in which they are located.

CT3 Acquire training in the use of new technologies and information and communication technologies.

B04 That students can transmit information, ideas, problems and solutions to a specialized and non-specialized public)

CG4 Manage the domain in the methods, techniques and specific analysis and computer tools.

CE4 Describe formally linguistic data to be used in computer applications related to language.

CG5 Demonstrate the capacities for the use of tools and resources for the analysis and synthesis of information

CE5 Evaluate the linguistic and sociocultural adaptation in relation to the textual typolog.

CT5 Acquire essential notions of scientific thought.


CG6 Assess the ability to organize and plan work and research.

CE6 Identify the basic concepts and the different methodologies related to translation.




CE7 Recognize the main theories, concepts and methodologies in the field of communication.




CE8 Assess the current socio-communicative reality according to its cultural, political and social dimension.




CE9 Identify and apply the theoretical and practical fundamentals of writing in the media.




CE10  Acquire critical awareness of the relationships between historical and social events and literary production.
